Output identification: O5
Output Title: Design and Development of Case Study
Output description: The design and development of the Case Study involves and is built on the CRAFT Joint Multidisciplinary Course Curriculum developed in O1 and implemented in the Joint Multidisciplinary Training Scheme in O2.
The case study will be designed, developed and implemented as a competition for Master students and PhD students – drawing attention to material resources and sustainability developing a specific innovative design built on the foundation of shared cultural heritage.
The result of the Case Study will be showcased on the public awareness campaigns / outreach activities (C9). The expected impact and transferability of this Intellectual Output is high, with the prediction that it will be a catalyst to promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue in Europe, due to the the high element of innovation involved. The activity will also be a catalyst to the promotion of cultural heritage as a driver of innovation and creative endeavour, i.e. catalyst for jobs and growth and by this also have a high potential of transferability. This also includes experiments and prototype modelling, cooperation with manufacturers, mission and vision for the designed new innovative forms and their relation to the public exposure situation.
CRAFT regards innovation built on shared cultural heritage as a dynamic process, involving the declaration of our memory of past events and actions that have been refashioned for present day purposes such as identity, community, legalisation of power and authority. According to the project group, any cultural landscape or cultural heritage is characterised by its dynamism, temporality and changing priorities in social perception.
CRAFT will through the Case Study include a focus on sustainable investment, performance and efficiency in education, to ensure high levels of Transparency and recognition of competencies and qualifications for the purpose of employability and mobility during education and work.
We stress that the research referring to our shared cultural heritage we develop during the project, will generate the values built on the past to be protected tomorrow. And by this strengthen the links between innovation, research and education – the three sides of the ‘Knowledge Triangle’.
A significant strength is that CRAFT proposes a student competition that focus on the development of sustainable and innovative design practices for reuse, valorisation and communication of Innovative practices built on shared cultural heritage.
It is an agenda that has three expected impacts:
- The promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue in Europe.
- The promotion of culture as a driver of innovation and creative endeavor, bearing in mind the Lisbon Strategy for jobs and growth.
- The placing of culture as a main element of the European Union’s external relations to foster understanding with other parts of the world.
This Case Study is an important part of the CRAFT project and aims at receiving enthusiastic and thorough proposals for Innovative outputs built on shared cultural heritage and through a competition focus on new developed elements of innovation. The results of the competition are expected to have a high potential of transferability and at the same time it will, by rethinking education, increase the meaning of the European cultural heritage in educational and social contexts.
The objective is to give the students an opportunity to further develop the skills acquired during Artistic and Cultural Activity 1 and 2. Moreover, the objective is to provide opportunities for students to explore and gain knowledge of a subject of their own choice within the field of material resources and sustainability, while acquiring competencies in the rigorous structuring and communication of their knowledge production in connection to innovative practices built on shared cultural heritage.
Selected entries of the competition will be granted access to a design workshop taking place in Italy in 2020, to secure that the pre-qualified proposals will be guided towards a successful end. The result of the competition will be showcased at the Outreach Activity O6 – exhibition and theatre performance at AMAT Rossini Theatre in Pesaro 2020 and contribute to the overall purpose of the project.
